Heather Maltman hit the ground running in the US over the weekend with her online TV series pilot, The Film Lab, screening at LA Webfest.
Directed and produced by Swingtime duo Nick Hensen and Stuart Subolic, the series was crowd funded by Indiegogo and tells the story of a crack team of scientists commissioned to solve mysteries of film making.
Maltman, who was a favourite contestant on the Bachelor and co-hosted I’m A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here Now!, attended the festival screening and also appeared on two discussion panels, the first being about actors and why they should be involved in web series, and the second being women in the film world.
“It has been incredible,” Maltman told Confidential. “The most amazing part of being over here is how easy it is to meet people over here in the industry that are doing good stuff. There’s so many Aussies over here that are legitimately working, not just trying to get work.”
The Film Lab picked up two awards at the festival - Most Outstanding Achievement in Directing In A Comedy Series and Most Outstanding Achievement in Series Premise In A Comedy Series.
Maltman is in LA visiting boyfriend Andrew Steel, who moved to the US last month.
In other news, Maltman appears in a small role in Aussie film Unindian that will screen at the Newport Film Festival on Tuesday.
