Guy Sebastian and wife Jules surprise cancer-stricken farmer with Christmas gifts

Guy Sebastian and his wife Jules surprised a cancer-stricken farmer and her family with Amazon gifts to spread Christmas cheer during the pandemic.

SINGER Guy Sebastian and his wife Jules brought some Christmas cheer to a small country town last week by donating gifts to Aussies who are doing it tough.

The former Australian Idol winner and the celebrity stylist surprised struggling farmer and nurse Louise Middleton, who has been diagnosed with bowel cancer, by delivering a special hamper from Amazon Australia to her family.

“It just breaks our hearts to see what so many people are facing,” the ARIA award winner told Confidential.

“It’s been a pretty tumultuous time for everybody but especially rural communities, they’ve had bushfires, drought and covid then on top of that there’s families that are experiencing normal difficulties like the Middletons.

“They fought to save their farm during the bushfires and we saw all of the damage. They basically watched all of their livestock burn to death, 700 sheep - then their family dog.”

The Sebastians travelled from their home in Maroubra to the Middleton’s farm in Cudgewa, Victoria to gift Louise, her husband Ian and their teenage daughters Grace, 17, and Genevieve, 15, with Amazon gift cards, electronics and more as part of Amazon’s Delivering Smiles initiative to donate more than $220,000 worth of Amazon Gift Cards to 2,000 struggling families.

“I felt like father Christmas yesterday and it was a pretty special moment,” said Guy.

“There’s so much that needs to be done but if we all band together in small ways we can at least make a dent and help some people.”

The Sebastians, who are strong advocates for mental health through their Sebastian Foundation, are more committed than ever to raising awareness.

“It’s our main focus because it’s a massive problem and obviously I’ve got two kids and we’ve had tragedy in our own family, Jules lost her brother to suicide and we’ve lost friends,” said Guy.

“Suicide is the leading cause of death amongst our youth and it’s a really big problem and we just need to get to it at an early stage not just putting bandaids on issues later on in life.

“It’s different to when we were growing up, kids are under scrutiny and the bullying is out of control.”

After riding out an unprecedented year in Sydney, the Sebastians are looking forward to spending Christmas with family in South Australia.

“We’re doing Adelaide this year, we haven’t done that in a while because we always go to the south coast and do Christmas and New Year here,” he said.

The Battle Scars singer is also looking forward to the new year, which could see him resume his coaching gig on The Voice when it premieres on a new network - Channel 7.

“I haven’t started filming, I think they’re still locking in the whole panel. I had an early expression of interest a while ago,” he said.

“It takes time, before I make a decision I’ll see who else is locked in and whether it fits in with touring and everything next year. But obviously I love the show and I think Channel 7 will do an amazing job of it.

“Hopefully it can work out. If I’m going to do any TV next year, I’d only do The Voice.”
