It turns out November wasn’t too bad for golfer Cam Smith after all.
Just days following what he branded “the worst day of my professional career” after he missed the cut at Australian PGA Championship by nine strokes, the notoriously private sportsman popped the question to his girlfriend Shanel Naoum.
The Saturday Telegraph can also reveal a wedding is to take place imminently.
Photographs taken of the pair earlier this week show Naoum sporting a sizeable diamond ring while the pair ran errands.
Naoum, a Florida native, was sporting a black full piece workout leotard, while her fiance opted for a green T-shirt, white shorts, white wraparound sunglasses and of course his trademark mullet.
They could be seen shopping at Kitchen Warehouse, no doubt buying homewares for their new $4.8 million riverside Brisbane apartment.
When asked about the engagement, someone close to Smith confirmed the news, however wouldn’t elaborate on details in a bid to “keep it private”.
The wedding, which is rumoured to be taking place early in the new year, will be one of two things, according to those close to him.
Either a star-studded affair with some of the world’s top golfers in attendance, or a low-key shindig with his nearest and dearest.
“Greg Norman Jnr and his new wife Michelle are believed to be on the guest list,” one insider said.
“They have been very tight lipped about details, however the wedding will go one of two ways. It could be a wild and low-key affair with all his good school mates and the people who helped get him to the top and you won’t see a single person from the golfing fraternity, or you can expect to see Adam Scott.”
