From bedsheets to bikinis: Tziporah Malkah loses 50kg and regains her health

Tziporah Malkah, 45, couldn’t be happier after losing 50kg on doctor’s orders. “I’m elated. I can’t stop dancing around, acting like a little kid!” the former model said.

Tziporah Malkah reflects on her biggest regrets

Few Australian personalities have had as many transformations as Tziporah Malkah, be it her name (formerly Kate Fischer), her love life, her career and now, as reported in New Idea, her body.

Now 45, she has never completely left the Australian psyche, and this time it’s because she has dropped an incredible 50kg, getting down to a number she hasn’t seen on the scales for more than a decade.

Skinny doesn’t necessarily mean pretty these days, with women of all shapes and sizes increasingly featuring in mainstream media, but Malkah’s weight loss was ordered by a doctor, who told her at 120kg that she was morbidly obese and unhealthy — and she agreed.

“I was in such bad shape, mentally and physically,” she said.

“But now … well, it’s a different story. I can walk for miles without panting and sweating. Plus, a lot of emotional heaviness has lifted, along with the extra weight. I’m a different person!”

The magazine reported that Malkah is the same weight as she was when she was Kate Fischer — a top model and the fiancee of billionaire James Packer.

Before appearing on I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! in 2017 Malkah weighed 118kg but lost 12kg in the jungle.

However, she put the weight back on following her reality TV stint because of an injury to her foot.

Last year, Malkah admitted she had struggled with the scrutiny that came with being in the public eye for so long.

“I don’t look like I did when I was 23. I’m not rich like I was when I was 23. Who is?” she told News Corp.

“I don’t feel good. I am still a bit vain. I’d like to look as good as I can for 44. I want to be a good 44 — not an average one.”

During her time on I’m A Celeb, the former model revealed she had developed a “chronic eating disorder” at the age of eight.

“I don’t have a healthy relationship with food. Since I was eight and I am 43,” Malkah said. “I have never eaten healthy within the 35 years. It has been a lifelong condition.”

Malkah, who was once engaged to Packer, said while she had previously had lap band surgery she wouldn’t be going down that path again but would consider a breast lift.

Malkah, who has never lacked a sense of humour, was famously snapped by paparazzi outside her home wearing only a sheet. She later wore a sheet at VanGo warehouse in Brookvale to raise awareness for White Caravan, a charity that provides refurbished caravans for women escaping domestic violence or homelessness. In November, Malkah spoke out about her “complicated” relationship with Packer on Seven’s Sunday Night.

She opened up about the tumultuous relationship she embarked on with the son of media tycoon Kerry Packer when she was at the height of her fame.

When she first met Packer, she told Sunday Night reporter Denham Hitchcock, she had just finished filming racy 1993 drama Sirens, her first film role.

“I run into him at a trendy Sydney nightspot. He congratulates me, he’s very kind and says ‘Would you like to go out for dinner?’,” she recalled.

From there, the pair saw each other casually, Packer taking “a couple of years” to ask her to date exclusively.

“I said no, I don’t want to be one-on-one with you. He was a little gobsmacked.”

But Malkah eventually relented — and she conceded that Packer’s lavish lifestyle was part of what attracted her.

She and Packer spent five years together, separating in 1998 after a two-year engagement.

Famously, Malkah won Dolly Magazine’s Cover girl competition in 1987, sparking a high-profile modelling career.

From then until now Malkah’s life has been a series of well-publicised ups and downs, but she is optimistic she can ride this wave for a long time to come.

“I’m elated. I can’t stop dancing around, acting like a little kid!” she beamed.

“Really, I feel completely different.”

Malkah said she is now considering a return to modelling.
