Frances Abbott makes her bodybuilding debut

DESPITE never having competed in the ‘sport’ before, Tony Abbott’s daughter proved she was up there with the best as she made her bodybuilding debut today.

SHE may clash with her dad when it comes to hot-button social topics like gay marriage but Frances Abbott, youngest daughter of ex-PM Tony, has revealed she has at least one thing in common with her famously competitive father.

The 26-year-old took to the stage in Melbourne today for what was her first foray into the world of bodybuilding, or more specifically ‘fitness modelling’ at the Australian ACN State Bodybuilding Titles.

And despite never having competed in the ‘sport’ before, the hard-bodied former fashion student proved she was up there with the best as she flexed and posed in a black and diamante bikini.

Her head-turning debut capped a gruelling, weeks-long preparation that Abbott chronicled on social media which detailed her extreme diet and exercise regimen.

Now a personal trainer after ditching her plans for a career in fashion, Abbott has proven she has a similar passion for keeping fit to her father who, despite having long hung up his gloves, was a devout boxer at university.

Abbott senior is also just as dedicated to maintaining a trim physique and, as a dedicated runner, can often be found jogging around Parliament House in Canberra or his neighbourhood in Forestville.

Prior to her appearance on stage today, Frances took to Instagram to update followers on her progress.

“One week to go. The home stretch. Stage is in sight. It ain’t gonna be easy. But it sure as hell is exciting,’ adding; “No mirror, just judges and a crowd of people and not much in the way of pants, just a few inches of Lycra and some bling bling [sic],.”

But for all her efforts it’s understood the super-tanned Abbott missed out on a placing. However she was awarded a ‘participation award’.

“Francie’s a brave girl who is always willing to have a go. I’m proud of her and like any dad wish her success in all she does,” Tony Abbott said today.

Her eye-popping turn comes a day her father’s now-infamous face-off with a self-proclaimed Hobart anarchist.

Frances, meanwhile, came out swinging on the issue of same-sex marriage last week when she made it clear what side she was rooting for.

Planting her feet firmly in the Yes camp, Frances declared on Instagram; “‘Ripped the envelope open. Ticked the yes box,’ she wrote, adding the hashtags #voteyes and #loveislove.

Speaking on the radio about his daughter joining the Yes campaign, Tony Abbott said he was proud his daughter was an ‘independent woman’.

‘Both of us raised Francey, as our other daughters, to be her own person and I am proud of her,’ Mr Abbott told Sydney station, 2GB.

‘I am proud of the fact she is an independent woman, who has her own thoughts and who does her own thing.
