A fantasy-themed tavern and elevated sci-fi bar within the same walls that also house an e-games sports arena complete with a broadcast centre and rows and rows of video games. Welcome to Fortress Sydney.
The much hyped, multimillion-dollar gaming and entertainment venue will open on April 8 at Central Park Mall in Sydney.
The opening comes three years after Fortress Melbourne launched and become a hot spot for gamers and celebrities alike.
Fitting up to 1000 people and with a 2am licence on the weekend, Fortress Sydney is hoping to cater both gamers and those looking for a fun night out.
“You don’t have to be a gamer to appreciate what we’ve done, because we’ve blended the worlds of gaming, entertainment and dining,” said CEO and co-founder Jon Satterley.
Unlike Fortress Melbourne, Fortress Sydney has two dining options. One is The Tavern, which is a fantasy themed restaurant – like something out of Dungeons and Dragons – that serves large portions of pub classics with a side of console video games.
The second is sci-fi themed bar 2315, which among it’s cocktail list will have AI activations.
“We want 2315 to be the best bar in Sydney. Not the best gamer bar,” Satterley said. ‘We’ve raised the bar on experiences. It’s not your average watering hole.”
The entire venue fit out cost millions of dollars and comes at a time when esport tournaments can attract online audiences of 100 million viewers.
Esports are also being considered to be added to the schedule at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Victoria.
The NSW 24 Economy Commissioner Mike Rodrigues said the opening of Fortress Sydney was part of a new global movement.
“It’s an emerging area that’s highly technology driven and amplified by an audience that want things that aren’t pub rock,” he said.
“[Venues like Fortress] gives homes to these communities which ultimately make for a vibrant city.”
Fortress Sydney opens up metres from The Abercrombie, which since its launch in December, has seen a hotspot for partiers, with constant queues to get in on the weekend.
