Retired Wallabies captain and rugby star George Gregan has split with his wife and business partner Erica after 22 years of marriage.
The Gregans separated late last year and it is understood the former footballer moved out of the family’s Beauty Point, Mosman, home before Christmas, well-placed sources told Annette Sharp. Gregan, 46, could not be reached for comment.
The future of the couple’s multimillion-dollar hospitality company The Gregan Group — under whose banner the pair have established 24 cafes, bars and restaurants over two decades with a reported annual turnover of $10 million — is now under a cloud.
The couple met in Melbourne in 1994 as the Wallabies celebrated their second Test win over Italy in a match played in that city.
Later that year he would help Australia to a win in the Bledisloe Cup and become a national hero — leading to him being anointed 1995 Cleo Bachelor of the Year.
An astute businesswoman, Erica and Gregan moved in together in Paddington in 1996 before marrying in 1998 on Fiji’s Turtle Island in a ceremony Zambian-born Gregan later described as “wonderful, very personal and private”.

Children Max, 18, Charlie, 17, and Jazz, 15, joined them from 2001.
Max’s epilepsy diagnosis in 2004 inspired the couple to establish the George Gregan Foundation in 2005 to raise funds for sick children.
The Foundation is expected to be wound up next year.
The Gregans have been under pressure for the past year after a business partnership soured in 2019, leading to lawsuits and to counter lawsuits that made headlines in December.
Alexander Goldberg, founder of sports product company PTP Fitness has claimed Gregan and Waratah’s player Matthew Dixon, squeezed him out of his own company by changing the password of a MYOB account.
The claim, which Gregan and Matthew Dixon dispute, is now before the court and comes after a court last year found against Goldberg in an earlier matter in which he questioned the company shareholders’ agreement.
In May 2019, Mr Goldberg’s ADG United brought proceedings against a group of companies including EG Enterprises, which lists as its directors George and Erica Gregan.
Sources close to the couple said the lawsuit, which is ongoing, had put the couple’s marriage under pressure.
As managing director of The Gregan Group, Erica is expected to maintain a role running the family company, which has several bars and cafes in Sydney and Brisbane.
