Former RM Williams creative director Jeremy Hershan is pushing ahead with his own brand.
The respected fashion Mr has been quietly working on his label, Haulier, starting with unisex totes and launching his first season of ready-to-wear when his flagship Oxford Street store opens next month.
“I wanted to start with a very pure focus on one product,” Hershan told Confidential.
“And I had been trying to find the perfect tote bag for a long time and I was never really satisfied, they were either too sort of basic or luxury and unobtainable so I really wanted to create a utilitarian tote bag that through my luxury training was elevated.
“And I suppose the idea behind the name came from to haul or to carry.”
Hershan is an RMIT graduate from Melbourne who honed his craft on London’s Saville Row before taking an apprenticeship with Dior Homme’s Kris Van Asshche.
He was the creative behind Alfred Dunhill before moving home to Australia to helm RM Williams in 2016.
“I cut my teeth with the people I was really inspired by and they all happen to be in Europe,” Hershan said.
“To me it was pretty clear from an early age that I wanted to learn from the best and absorb the trade and the craft.”
