The new season of SAS Australia is set to be the most explosive yet as celebrity recruits make bombshell revelations and the show is rocked by a cheating scandal.
Confidential understands that former NRL star Sam Burgess admitted to having an affair during his four-year marriage to ex-wife Phoebe which will air on Monday night’s episode.
In 2018, the retired Souths captain was embroiled in a sexting scandal involving a Melbourne woman who alleged that he had cheated on Phoebe with her the year prior.
Burgess has finally come clean about the indiscretion which ultimately ended his high profile marriage.
“The last 18 months I felt like a loser, my marriage broke down, I had just retired from sport, my ex father in law had taken out an AVO against me, and whether you like it or not, losing can become a habit, so I’m here because I want to show myself I can still be a winner,” Burgess says on the show.
The identity of his mistress has never been made public.
Burgess, 32, split with Phoebe, 31, after the sexting scandal and three weeks after the birth of their second child.
They briefly reconciled in early 2019 before calling it quits again that same year and their messy split was played out in court with claims of assault and drug use.
Burgess is among 18 recruits who are set to appear on season two of Channel 7’s SAS Australia and there’s no shortage of drama as contestants are put through their paces by ex-Special Forces soldiers Mark ‘Billy’ Birmingham, Jason ‘Foxy’ Fox, Ollie Ollerton and chief instructor Ant Middleton.
From a controversial tear gas stunt to one recruit being busted cheating, producers are hoping to outdo the success of last season which was a ratings winner for Channel 7.
Other recruits include Neighbours actor Bonnie Anderson, Bra Boy Koby Abberton, model Erin Holland, former Labor politician Emma Husar and retired tennis player Mark Philippoussis.
SAS Australia premieres Monday at 7:30pm on Channel 7.
