SAMARA Weaving set hearts racing on Home and Away and the Australian soapie star is set do the same on the big screen.
The former Summer Bay favourite plays the love interest in the new Hollywood film Monster Trucks, to be released next week.
“It’s actually the first American role I ever booked,” the 24-year-old said.
“It was like three years ago — it was my first trip over to Los Angeles.
“I was at the airport leaving and they called and said ‘You’ve got it’ and so I had to get on a plane and turn back around.”
The adventure movie for kids follows a high school student building a Monster Truck to escape his humdrum life.
Weaving said: “I play Brianne who he sort of daydreams about at school. Everyone was really great to work with.”
Monster Trucks is just the icing on the cake for US-based Weaving. She also has a lead role in the Netflix horror The Babysitter, due out later this year.
“Life after Home and Away has been good. I’m very lucky and fortunate,” Weaving said.
“A lot of people can go over to the States and it doesn’t work out so it’s total luck of the draw.”
As for the future, Weaving said she’s happy to just take things day by day.
“The fact that I’m even working in this field is pretty amazing, and the fact that Australia and Sydney and Home and Away gave that to me — I’m always going to stay thankful,” she said.
“Obviously the goal is just to keep working and not run out of it.
“You don’t want to dream too big in case it doesn’t happen. I’m just taking it one step at a time. I’ve been very fortunate in the work I’ve been getting.”
