Former Bachelor Matty J lands travel job as host of Channel 10 show Luxury Escapes
Former Bachelor star Matty Johnson has landed his, and most of our dream job, as host of a luxury travel show. The role came months before the birth of his first child to his fiance.
It is a tough job but someone has to do it.
And in this instance of travelling five-star across the globe, former Bachelor star Matthew Johnson is that somebody, after landing what many would see as the dream job on TV.
“When I finished high school I went backpacking around Europe for 12 months and that pretty much set me up for loving travel ever since,” he told Confidential.

“I did four years living in London and the best part was doing weekend trips all around Europe. So now, to do what I love and get paid for it is a dream come true.
“Growing up, I think everyone has that aspiration of wanting to travel and get paid to do it, either as a host or a writer. I am very grateful.”
Johnson’s role as a host on Channel 10’s Luxury Escapes: The World’s Best Holidays is anything but backpacking. Launched on Saturday, the first episode will feature Japan.
Johnson and co-host Sophie Falkinervisited 19 destinations, including South Africa, Hong Kong, Myanmar, Switzerland, Germany, Tasmania and Abu Dhabi.
“I think the most expensive place we went was between $7000 and $8000 per night in Tokyo,” he said.
“It was definitely top-shelf — and while we were there we also dabbled in super yachts and Ferraris, pretty much anything that was the epitome of luxury. I threw out a lot of suggestions and thankfully a lot of them stuck.”
New dad Johnson filmed the series in the months leading up to the birth of his first child with partner Laura Byrne. The couple last month welcomed daughter Marlie-May Rose.
Johnson said filming the show was a far cry from his backpacking days.
“At the end of my 12 months I remember I was travelling through Asia and I was eating fried rice off street vendors for about 50 cents per meal, and somehow didn’t manage to get any food poisoning.
“When I compare how I was travelling to how I am travelling now, I have come a long way.”
