FIFTEEN years in one of the most cutthroat industries is an impressive milestone, and Camilla and Marc ensured its anniversary did not go unnoticed as the brand officially opened Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.
A 120m runway surrounded by 60 tonne of sand provided an out-of-this-world backdrop to the brand’s Resort 2019 collection showcase, which took place at the Royal Hall of Industries in Moore Park.
Dusty khaki and rust tones contrasted beautifully with metallic pinks and citrus hues, while tailored cuts — finely executed, contemporary but also slightly reminiscent of the brand’s early aesthetic — proved the strongest element of the collection.
Cropped, boxy jackets and oversized blazers added a masculine twist to structured, buttoned mini dresses which flattered the waist and free-flowing dresses which billowed delicately around the show’s gigantic boulder centrepiece.

This is a range for the strong, modern Australian woman.
A focus on dramatic sleeves hinted we will see this trend for another season, as well as the ubiquitous trench coat, which has become the outerwear pick for 2018.
The show itself — from its snaking runway to its arid, Mars-like setting — set a very high bar for designers Camilla Freeman-Topper and Marc Freeman’s peers.
They will showcase their designs at Eveleigh’s Carriageworks and various sites around Sydney until Thursday.
But that’s what comes from 15 years at the top of one’s game.
