DARK clouds have gathered over the life of colourful kaftan queen Camilla Franks with the fashion designer revealing she has breast cancer.
The diagnosis comes just a few months after the 42-year-old businesswoman gave birth to her daughter Luna Gypsy Jones, with her fiance, Welsh musician JP Jones, in January.
Franks announced her cancer battle yesterday morning saying she was “scared” but prepared to fight and was being cared for by one of the country’s leading oncologists. She said she would be inspired by CAMILLA staff who had been through a similar scare.
“I am fearlessly determined to do whatever it takes by focusing on my body, mind and spirit as I take my first trusting steps towards recovery,” Franks said in a statement to her label’s staff.
“As you know, my beautiful daughter Luna arrived a few months ago, and it is her smile and warmth that remind me this is a challenge I will embark on with courage — for her and my fiance as well as myself.
“With the incredible love and support of my little family I have no doubt I will beat this. I am so grateful for those around me, who have already been such an amazing support to me.”
Franks has only recently returned from maternity leave and is expected to keep working during her battle.
“The love and support of her entire tribe is with her always,” CAMILLA CEO Jane McNally said. “Over the past 12 months we’ve been focused on rapid expansion plans for the business and Camilla is entrusting us to continue this journey while she undergoes her treatment.
“We will continue to build on the strong foundations which have been established.”
CAMILLA will be showing at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia in Sydney on May 17 but the label could not confirm if Franks will be there.
