Fantales fetching up to $85 on eBay as Nestle confirms they are still being discontinued

Would you pay $85 for a pack of Fantales? The taste for nostalgia is high, with packs of the sold out lollies listed on auction sites as Nestle confirms they won’t be back.

Fantales to be discontinued after 93 years due to declining sales

After announcing it would discontinue the production of Allen’s Fantales due to “declining sales,” the chocolate caramel chews have now sold out around the country and fetching up to $85 on auction sites.

Bulk 1kg bags of the lollies wrapped in movie trivia usually retail for about $12-$16, but are fetching anywhere from $50 to $85 on eBay, with listings detailing 12 packets at that price have sold in the past 24 hours.

One 160g bag, which would normally cost about $5, is being listed for $55.95.

Last week Nestle, Allen’s parent company, announced they would be stopping production of Fantales due to declining sales.

There has been suggestions that the announcement was a publicity stunt, such has been the demand for the lollies which were first created in 1930.

However a spokesperson from Nestle denied the announcement was a publicity stunt.

“Due to the significant manufacturing upgrades required coupled with declining sales, the investment needed simply isn’t viable,” they said.

The lollies are currently made in Melbourne.

It was predicted Fantales would be available until the end of July however they are completely sold out in stores around the country.

Nestle added they would do everything they can to add more to the mix.

“We will continue to produce Fantales until mid-July. We understand there’s been a flurry of people buying Fantales over the past few days but we are working to get more Fantales on shelf as soon as we can,” they said.

Fantales now join the likes of Spearmint Leaves and Green Frogs, which have also been discontinued.
