Veteran chef Neil Perry has received another awards. His Double Bay restaurant Margaret is now the third best steak restaurant in the world.

Margaret came in at No.3 in Upper Cut Media House Ltd’s annual list of “World’s 101 Best Steak Restaurants.”

It was the highest new entry on the list regardless of the fact the restaurant doesn’t market itself as a steak restaurant.

In the award, Perry’s restaurant was described as “the apex of Australian cuisine with a pronounced focus on impeccably crafted steaks, under the expert stewardship of renowned chef Neil Perry.”

“Prepared with consummate skill, each cut is served having been aged and cooked to enhance its rich flavours and tender textures.”

Perry said being included on the list was “wonderful.”

“We consider ourselves a seafood restaurant but we run a great steak program,” he said.

“The fact there were a few Australian venues in the list speaks volumes of the quality of Australian beef producers.”

Perry sources his meat from Copper Tree and David Blackmore and costs anything from $59 for a 220g Copper Tree 60-month friesian fillet with red curry butter and grilled shallots to $220 for David Blackmore wagyu sirloin with chimichurri.

Perry’s former restaurant Rockpool Bar & Grill also found its way into the top 10. The restaurant, which is owned by Hunter Street Hospitality and celebrates its 15th year in operation, came in at No.8.

The iconic restaurant is now under the help of chef Santiago Aristizabal, who said he was proud to have retained their place at No. 8.

“Our dedicated team works tirelessly to ensure we bring our customers the best produce and experience we possibly can at every service as we have for the last 15 years, and being placed in the top 10 amongst such incredible restaurants from around the world is a testament to the fact we are continuing to go from strength to strength,” he said.

For the second year running Hospitality Group Liquid and Larder had two entries in the list, with The Gidley reaching No.24 and Bistecca reaching No.45.

The notoriously hard to book Bistecca specialises in one specific cut, the bistecca alla fiorentina which is a t-bone cooked in the traditional Tuscan way over coals and served medium-rare.

“No other Australian hospitality group has two included, and it really shows the dedication and attention from our amazing restaurant teams that we have been able to maintain and improve our position. We pride ourselves on quality and consistency and it’s great to see that recognised in the awards,” said James Bradey, owner of Liquid & Larder.

While Kingsley’s came in at No.89.

Parrilla Don Julio in Buenos Aires was named as the best steak restaurant in the world while Bodega El Capricho in Spain came in second.
