Eric Bana, Miranda Tapsell attend Sydney premiere of The Dry

Eric Bana and Miranda Tapsell have walked the special black carpet on the opening night of new Aussie flick The Dry.

The irony of it raining on opening night of new Aussie flick The Dry wasn’t lost on stars Eric Bana and Miranda Tapsell.

Stepping on to the special black carpet for the opening of the Westpac Open Air Cinema at Mrs Macquarie’s Chair, Bana said: “If that (rain) is the worst thing that happens for the next year, we will be okay.”

The Dry is based on Jane Harper’s best-selling debut novel of the same name, telling the story of Federal Police agent Aaron Falk who returns to his small home town to investigate the murder of his childhood best friend.

The film was directed by Robert Connolly, who also walked the black carpet, alongside actors Matt Nable, Jeremy Lindsay Taylor, Joe Klocek, BeBe Bettencourt and Sam Corlett.

“It is really fabulous,” said Tapsell, who plays the character Rita, of the rain. “This time last year I was at a hotel in Darling Harbour and I couldn’t even see North Sydney (because of the bushfires) so I am actually quite grateful that there is some rain.”

The Dry will be released in cinemas nationally from January 1 and was produced by the Made Up Stories powerhouse team including Bruna Papandrea and Jodi Matterson.

“I have lived with the film and all of the different versions through the edit from its infancy so to see the finished product finally being shared is very special,” Bana said.

“It was always our intention to make something cinematic, it was made for the big screen, not to stream at home. We want to try and lure people away from home and back in to the cinema.”
