Hemsworths, Pat Rafter help clean up flood-ravaged Lismore

Some serious star power has joined the flood clean-up in northern NSW, with actors and world-class athletes pulling on their gumboots and rolling up their sleeves to help out.

NSW Emergency Services Minister determined to get everyone 'back on their feet' amid flooding

Victims of the NSW floods may accuse the authorities of abandoning them in their hour of need, but there has been plenty of star power to help out in the clean-up.

Worn-down residents from Mullumbimby to Woodburn, Byron and Ballina are still without services, food, petrol, phone reception or the internet, and complain they’ve been left to fend for themselves.

But the clean-up effort has been bolstered by celebrity locals.

The This Is Byron Instagram page posted the snap of two of the Hemsworth brothers and Pat Rafter with one Lismore local during the clean-up, joking: “Thanks to everyone cleaning up alongside these relatively unknown blokes.”

The post also gave actor Simon Baker a shot-out “we know you’re all in too”, and vented their frustration.

“The reason I am sharing as these guys get the media attention that we need which in turn will make sure no one forgets how much there is to do. Especially you @scottmorrisonmp @peterduttonmp @dom.perrottet and the rest of you that have the power to allocate millions and send in more ADF!!Elsa Pataky and her young children are among the thousands of Aussies impacted by the recent floods.”

Liam Hemsworth was also seen on Friday at Newrybar Town Hall, helping locals sort through donated goods.

Missing from the clean-up was Bryon’s most famous resident, Thor star Chris Hemsworth, who is currently in Switzerland filming Extraction 2.

His wife Elsa Pataky was completely isolated from the community, when the entrance to her $30m property was completely flooded.

“Elsa was stuck in her house for a number of days with no phone reception,” a source said.

“She was there on her own with her three young children because Chris is currently overseas filming.

“The road to get into their property was completely flooded so there was no way in and no way out.”

Since the water has cleared, Pataky has been making her way to nearby properties, helping friends and neighbours whose houses have virtually crumbled.

Hemsworth took to social media earlier this week to write: “Absolutely devastating watching some of the worst floods in Australia’s history hitting Queensland and NSW.

“Heroic efforts by everyone involved in rescuing thousands of people who have been stranded.”

Seven TV host Larry Emdur was on his way to his property at Neverfail Bay along the banks of Berowra Creek when Confidential reached out yesterday, however sources say his property is on high ground so he isn’t expecting much, if any, damage.

Former Myer model Elyse Knowles and her fiance Josh Barker haven’t stopped since the floods began last week, with the pair making their way around the floodwaters in northeastern NSW via boat, delivering food and necessities to those in need.

“If your phone is running out of battery and you need rescuing please change your voicemail to your address and current situation,” Knowles posted.
