TV presenter Edwina Bartholomew has apologised for a “hurtful” tweet she sent about Channel 9 reporter Seb Costello.
The Sunrise reporter again took to Twitter to issue the public apology nearly six weeks after her initial post on September 14.
“While I won’t repeat it, what I said about him was false, hurtful and completely inappropriate,” Bartholomew wrote today.
“I unreservedly apologise to Seb and his family for the hurt and offence my words caused.”
The tweet would indicate any issues have been resolved between Bartholomew and Costello after Channel 9 indicated it would be taking legal action against her.
A heavily pregnant Bartholomew, 36, was in London on assignment when she shared the “errant tweet” in reply to a video of Costello reporting outside the Victorian state parliament with a comment she later deleted.
The tweet stayed up for 50 minutes before it was removed.
Bartholomew then clarified that the tweet was due to fatigue and jet lag and she meant no offence.
“I was half asleep and on the other side of the world,” said Bartholomew, who is understood to have contacted Costello via phone after the incident.
“My apologies to Seb and all involved. No offence was intended and hopefully none was taken. It was clearly a mistake and the errant tweet has been deleted.”
Costello is the son of former federal treasurer Peter, next to whom Bartholomew was awkwardly sat on a flight from Sydney to Melbourne after the tweet blew up into a media storm.
Costello Sr is of course chairman of Channel 9 and his 32-year-old son made headlines in 2017 when he went on holidays for several weeks after missing a number of live crosses, with reports saying even his cameraman had no idea where he was.
Channel 9 said Costello Jr was simply taking some “well-earned” leave as the European correspondent.
