RADIO jock Kyle Sandilands surfaced yesterday, demanding “where’s the bacon” and declaring he was a “fat bastard” who had been sick for two days.
Sandilands had been missing in action from his KIIS FM breakfast show — and all of his usual haunts — since learning on Tuesday that he and co-host Jackie O Henderson had lost their top ratings spot.
But he was back on the air yesterday, and later at his favourite cafe, where he devoured a mountain of bacon.
The rotund 47-year-old said his absence from the airwaves had nothing to do with the ratings. “I was crook,” he told The Saturday Telegraph as he bowled up to Kings Cross cafe Uliveto about 11.30am.
“I changed my high blood pressure medication and got a bit of a bug, I was stumbling and was a bit dizzy — people thought I was drunk but I don’t drink.
“I’m a fat bastard, I don’t give a sh**. I’m on medication for life.
“Even if I was a gay 80kg I’d have high blood pressure.
“The tablets mean I can do what I want — where’s the bacon?”
Lighting up a cigarette, he went on: “I don’t give a damn about dieting. I smoke about 25 a day. I don’t drink, nah, no drugs, and I eat what I want.”
Tucking into a large plate of bacon, he added: “I haven’t eaten for days, I’m bloody ravenous.”
IMOGEN ANTHONY: KYLE AND I HAVE FAMILY PLANS
SANDILANDS ON A WINNER WITH LATEST TV VENTURE
Sandilands — who caught up with friends including his close mate, nightclub boss John Ibrahim, at an outdoor table of the cafe — said the ratings slump did not bother him, losing the top position to WSFM’s Brendan “Jonesy” Jones and Amanda Keller.
The results were announced on Tuesday, with Sandilands off work — and nowhere to be seen — on Wednesday and Thursday.
It prompted suggestions he was disappointed with the result but yesterday he said: “Ratings dip from time to time — it’s a freak book, I’m not bothered.
“I still get paid a sh**load for being on the show, so I’m sorted.
“This sh** happens — I’m just glad we lost out to Brendan and Amanda and not the enemy.”
Sandilands said his girlfriend Imogen Anthony was “not one to wipe my brow when I’m crook” but the couple had cancelled a planned getaway: “My girlfriend and I were supposed to be skiing in New Zealand this weekend but it’s not a good look to be sick a few days and then be papped on the slopes.”
