Desire In English: New Vera Wang collection showcased at InterContinental Hotel event

VERA Wang is the celebrity bridal designer that other celebrities wear on their big day — think Kim and Khloe Kardashian, Mariah Carey and Jessica Simpson — and now you can see her gowns up close.

VERA Wang is the celebrity bridal designer that other celebrities wear on their big day — think Kim and Khloe Kardashian, Mariah Carey and Jessica Simpson — and now you can see her gowns up close.

Next Wednesday the Vera Wang boutique will host its first fashion event and high tea at the InterContinental Hotel.

Managing Director of Luxury goods and jewellery company YTD, Yvonne Yeoh, which licenses Vera Wang in Australia, said it was a great way to showcase the collection Desire In English.

“We’ve been open for four years now, we haven’t done a fashion show before and the collection is very strong so we really want to show it off,” she said.

“The collection was inspired by the grandeur of the English aristocracy and the monarchy in past centuries, with gowns featuring vintage twists on a modern silhouette.”

Details include plunging necklines, bralettes, tulle overlays and hand beading.

Instead of a traditional runway, this presentation-style event will feature “moments’’.

“We have the models walk around the room, you can take photos and you’ll have the opportunity to touch and feel the gowns as well,” Yeoh said.

Yeoh believes Vera Wang’s celebrity association appeals to brides who want to feel like a princess on their big day.

“On her wedding day, every woman is a celebrity to her audience,” she said.

The Vera Wang gowns are made to measure in the US. Brides try on prospective samples, their measurements are taken and the dress is shipped from the US.

The process takes six to eight months and gowns are priced from $5000-$30,000.

“The Australian bride is classic, she tends to choose those very traditional and conservative gowns,” Yeoh said.
