Savvy designers are making a mint turning the country’s vaccine debate into Covid cashflow.
Author and TV presenter Kathryn Eisman has released a Covid-inspired range of socks for her fashion brand, High Heel Jungle, to capitalise on the tribal movement.
“We are seeing people embrace fashion as a means of self-expression,” Eisman said.
“People are polarised on different issues — lockdown, vaccination, travel — and people are increasingly showing the world what tribe, what their opinions are, even to stimulate a conversation where they can try and let someone see where they are coming from.”
From T-shirts bearing Premier Gladys Berejiklian’s likeness on the famous WWII “We can do it” poster to Kerry Chant mugs, consumer demand for pandemic related products is booming.
Tradie giants Jims Group has incentivised its workforce to roll up their sleeves with Jims Jabs shirts, jackets and car bumper stickers.
“When it comes to vaccinations, it is the only way to return back to whatever this new normal is,” Eisman, who is herself fully vaccinated, said.
“Yes we are seeing daily press conferences and politicians talking but fashion is such an incredibly powerful tool to speak to people and especially young people in a way that a politician may not have that same power.
“It is a fascinating time where people are turning to fashion to take a very strong stance about their opinions.”
Eisman’s Covid inspired collection features socks with the slogans such as Stay The F*ck Home, WFH Sucks, Over It and Anti Social Butterfly.
