Even at a time where online rules and designers are taking their inspiration offshore — Bianca Spender says she’s determined to make clothes for Australians, by Australians.

The designer — and daughter of Carla Zampatti — this year completed 10 years in the industry.

“Turning 10 years is exciting and it’s humbling. I suppose for me getting to 10 years has been momentous. My son is 10 as well so for me it’s a time to really push myself. It’s important to still create new things and evolve,“ she told Sydney Confidential.

“As an industry it’s really important that we come together now.

“When you look at issues like sustainability, people have to come together to make it work.”

Spender said she wants to continue her ethos of making 100 per cent Australian clothes.

“Everything is offshore these days (but) I’ve always made in Australia. I remember people looking at me saying you’ve got to get with the times, it’s all about overseas,” she said.

“But I wanted to do what I could to keep the craft in Australia. It was so much more valuable to me.”

Tomorrow marks the 10th anniversary of Vogue American Express Fashion’s Night Out and it’s also a milestone for supporter Spender.

“I’ve been a part of Vogue Fashion’s Night Out since it started 10 years ago. (It started) at a time when everyone was thinking how can we really imagine the retail experience in a new way? How can we get people on the streets connecting with each other?” she said.

“Over the years everything has just become more experimental and creative, playing with installations, food, dances and just having fun.

“Seeing people line up outside stores is something that’s really exciting.”

Hundreds of thousands are expected to descend on Sydney’s CBD to celebrate the 10th Vogue Fashion Night event tomorrow and retailers will be offering their best deals from 10am to 10pm.
