Despite having two years to come to terms with her skin cancer diagnosis, TV host Deborah Hutton is still anxious as she believes it will definitely return.

Despite overcoming her health battle in 2020, Deborah Hutton is bracing herself for more bad news.

The TV host had surgery to remove facial basal cell carcinoma, which is a type of skin cancer, resulting in an enormous scar on her face. Two years on, when asked whether the cancer was likely to return, the 60-year-old had a firm answer.

“One hundred per cent it will,” she told Sunday Confidential.

“Because I have had two significant cancers now in the same area.

“Around the nose and that lip, cheek area is one of the worst places you can get a skin cancer because it is like a freeway where cells can travel quite easily.”

As a result of her sobering reality, Hutton, who talks about her experience on 7NEWS Spotlight on Sunday night, must get her skin checked every three to four months, and the anxiety is yet to wane.

“She scans me and I wait for her response,” she said.

“The last time I was there, she said ‘you will like me today, but you need to know one day you are not going to like me’.

“I am paranoid, but it is a good paranoia, because it is important that I just religiously get my skin checked and watch it because early detection is absolutely everything.”

Despite having two years to come to terms with her diagnosis, Hutton said she was still haunted by her flippant relationship with the sun.

“I remember falling asleep in front of a sunlamp on my face when I was modelling in my early 20s,” she said.

“I wanted to give my skin a bit of colour and ended up with third-degree burns on my face. The things that I have done, I think what kind of idiot are you. That is trauma on the biggest organ in your body.”

Hutton has graced TV screens and magazine covers since the age of 16, but it is her role as an advocate for skin cancer awareness of which she is most proud.

“I look at the whole experience as a gift,” she said.

“It is one of the most meaningful things I have ever embarked up on.”
