Conrad Sewell has gone through a lot of obstacles to reach No. 1

It took Conrad Sewell 14 years to become an overnight success. With numerous radio hits under his belt, the 31-year-old has notched up his first chart topping album with his debut effort.

It took Conrad Sewell 14 years to become an overnight success.

With numerous radio hits under his belt, the 31-year-old has notched up his first chart topping album with his debut effort, Life.

It is a huge thrill for the singer songwriter who started singing professionally at the age of 17.

“It feels like everything that I’ve been through to get to this place has been worth it,” he told Confidential after finding out his album went to number one on the ARIA Chart.

“Every tear, every heartbreak and every hurdle that I have gone through in this industry, it is a sigh of relief that I will soak up every moment of, it is a massive achievement and that isn’t lost on me.”

He added: “I am the overnight success that has taken a lifetime.”

Life has been several years in the making for Sewell, who previously topped the singles charts with his song Start Again and has enjoyed massive success here and overseas with radio hits Who You Lovin and Hold Me Up.

The album includes his hits Healing Hands and Cone Clean and tells Sewell’s story of overcoming his demons and addiction.

“I had to get to this point personally where I could open up this much,” he explained. “

It is not going to be as long before I put another album out. This is the start for me, now the ball is rolling and I am centred and working hard, I am ready. I know it is hard work. I am going to work my arse off and take care of myself.”

Usually based in Los Angeles, Sewell is currently touring the country and will play Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on Saturday.
