But the day before the Hollywood star was offered a hitchhiking backpacker a lift — in a private helicopter.

Hemsworth was with his personal trainer Luke Zocchi who started in a film the star’s encounter when they picked him up on the side of the road.

“We’re going to Byron, we’ll give him a lift,” Hemsworth said.

“Little does he know we’re getting a chopper,” Zocchi continued.

They then switched vehicles into a helicopter where the backpacker got the surprise of his life.

“All of a sudden we pull up to the helipad. They’re like ‘ever flown in a helicopter Scotty?’ and I couldn’t believe it and that’s when I was like ‘who are you guys?,” Hildebrand told Nova.

“Luke was like ‘that’s Chris Hemsworth, Thor’ And I was like ‘what?’ I couldn’t believe it.”

Hemsworth returned to Australia last week after filming a Men in Black remake in Italy.

He has lived in Byron Bay since 2014 and is known to the locals as being a regular surfer.

Hemsworth was seen emerging from the water with wife Spanish actor Elsa Pataky.
