After closing its doors three years ago, famed Sydney restaurant Golden Century is making a comeback.

The Sussex St, late-night Chinese restaurant, which first opened in 1989, was one of covid’s biggest scalps and shut in 2021.

Now the restaurant is set to make a triumphant return in early 2025 at Crown Sydney.

At their VIP summer party held on Thursday evening, Crown Resorts announced it was bringing the hospitality institution back to life.

The restaurant, which has other modified outposts including XOPP and Golden Century BBQ at Sydney Exchange, will open on Level 3 of the hotel, replacing the now-closed Silks.

Owner Billy Wong said when Golden Century closed, he was shocked at the outpouring of love for the restaurant.

“When we closed it was the end of our lease but in the middle of covid so it was abrupt but we were overwhelmed by the amount of love. We didn’t realise how much it meant to Sydney and our customers,” he said.

“Everyone has their own story about Golden Century, some might be a bit blurry, but it was such a diverse group of diners who would come there and for different reasons.

That’s what resonated so having that history and brand and legacy, we felt we really wanted to bring it back to Sydney.”

At the same event, Crown Resorts announced Bondi’s famed Icebergs Bar and Grill would open a pop up at Barangaroo over summer.

Icebergs Harbour Bar will take over The Waiting Room bar space and terrace and welcome guests from morning to late night, offering guests classics that can get found at the Bondi site like the Iceburger, fried school prawns with aioli and lime and the signature cocktail No.147 which is made of Vodka, coconut, passionfruit, pineapples, lemon and aromatic bitters.

In a statement, Crown Sydney Chief Executive Officer, Stanford Le, said “Crown Sydney is already a beacon of hospitality in this beloved city, so it feels natural to add to our repertoire two renowned offerings from Sydney itself. We are thrilled to become the new home of the iconic Golden Century, offering our guests an experience that is at once nostalgic and exciting, and to partner with Icebergs for a summer residency of their bar experience, bringing their Bondi expertise to the harbourside.”

Reservations for Golden Century will open in December.
