AS much in demand on the big screen as he is on the music scene, Donald Glover is a multifaceted superstar.
Producing Grammy Award-winning singles, releasing culturally significant music videos, starring in Hollywood blockbusters, and writing, directing and starring in his own TV series, Glover is a creative genius.
The 34-year-old, who performs under the musical stage name Childish Gambino, is one of the biggest music stars in the world — and he’s bringing his talent to Australia.
Glover will perform at the Sydney Opera House forecourt on November 14 as part of a host of shows around the country.
Last month, Glover made waves across the US and the world with his single This Is America. The song became both Glover’s first number one and top 10 single in the US and Australia and has racked up 300 million hits on YouTube since last month.
The controversial lyrics and provocative film clip addresses topics including gun violence, police brutality and appropriation of black culture in the US and features Glover performing a series of shootings before breaking into dance.
While critics have arrived at different conclusions as to its meaning, almost all agree that it’s an intricate piece of social commentary on the state of America in 2018.
But before he was dominating the music scene with his provocative hip-hop, there was comedy. Glover began his career at 23 when he was hired by Tina Fey to be a writer on the hit satirical sitcom 30 Rock after his early comedy sketches went viral.
Since then he has appeared in films such as The Martian, Magic Mike and Spider-Man: Homecoming and as the young Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story.
He will also provide the voice of lead character Simba in a remake of the Disney film The Lion King.
