TWO years after her emaciated frame became the centre of a national debate around thin models, Cassi Van Den Dungen is back on the Sydney Fashion Week catwalk.

The self-confessed bogan was the second girl out at Toni Maticevski’s Fashion Week show — the first time she’s walked in Sydney since 2014, when designer Alex Perry described casting her as a “serious lapse of judgment”, following public outcry about her thin frame.

At Barangaroo’s The Cutaway a packed crowd watched Van Den Dungen and her fellow clotheshorses debut Maticevski’s resort collection, which ran to sparkly handcuffs and jewel-encrusted gags.

The Sydney designer delivered one of his edgiest collections to date with origami dresses and twisted chain mail ensembles.

Those in the front row included Bridget Malcolm, Jen Hawkins, Isabelle Cornish and Delta Goodrem who covered her ears in response to the overwhelming loud music signalling the start of the parade. “I’m going to be cheering Toni on,” the Born to Try singer told Confidential ahead of the show.

The oversized taffeta gowns caught TV presenter, Nikki Phillips’ eye.

“Sometimes I think his designs are too crazy for me, but then I’ll try it on, and it’s mind blowing., I think he creates art and the fabrics he uses are amazing. He knows women’s bodies and how to hide the bits we don’t like, which makes us feel incredible,” Phillips said.

The Kiwi starlet will attend shows all week filming for US e-tailer,

Polyvore, forcing her to make a few wardrobe changes each day.

“Tonight I’m wearing black lipstick which is a first for me. Fashion week

is about taking risks, and being true to yourself. I don’t feel competitive

because I’m a Kiwi, I’m laid back,” she said.
