Cass Thorburn, paparazzo in words of war after ‘invasion’ at party

Cassandra Thorburn has engaged in a fiery debate with a paparazzo. The ex-wife of Karl Stefanovic spent Saturday commenting on, then deleting comments on a social media post in which she criticised a photographer.

Cassandra Thorburn has engaged in a fiery debate with a paparazzo.

The ex-wife of Karl Stefanovic spent Saturday commenting on, then deleting comments on a social media post in which she criticised a photographer.

Thorburn, who post-divorce has released a book, become a reality TV contestant and secured a spot as a host on Studio 10, took to Instagram on Tuesday to slam photographers for taking pictures of her at a Dancing with the Stars after-party.

“A trash mag sends a pap to photograph DWTS after show drinks … headline up close and personal with Olympia,” she wrote.

“Yes I made lifelong friendships in the show, it was incredible.

“Watch out for the freaks hiding and taking photos. It will never sit well with me that anyone can actually do that and sleep at night. It’s such an invasion of privacy and scary that such people exist.”

However paparazzi Stephen Cook took offence to Thorburn’s post and issued a smackdown in response.

His comments seem to have hit a nerve with Thorburn, who has since deleted them.

“I don’t mean to be calling the kettle black, but really Cass,” @stephen8510 wrote.

“For the life of me, can you not see the double standard here? I understand morality is what the queen expects from her hive and not so much from herself, but surely you must recognise the hypocrisy and senseless contradictions in you (sic) latest attack on the paparazzi.

“You’ve obviously made a conscious decision you want to be more than just Cass Thorburn ‘mother’. As a ‘celebrity’ there will be a degree of public interest in you which means from time to time you will see the likes of me.

“You’ll also see rewards and opportunity that otherwise would not have come your way. In your role with Studio 10 you will have a voice that extends well beyond your front gate.

“There is also another elephant in the room — the issue of vested interests …

“Your association with Women’s Day is case in point. Just a fortnight ago you graced the pages of that magazine with your son Jackson in what I assume was a paid interview.

“Answer me this. If New Idea is a ‘trash mag’ then what does that make Women’s Day? The Guardian? These magazines don’t hide from who they are. Neither should you.”

Thorburn hit back, claiming Cook was in fact paparazzi Jonathan Marshall, who she famously spoke to at Sydney airport reportedly branding her ex-husband a ‘narcissist’ and ‘fake’.

She has since hit back at Marshall, denying she had made any such comments.

“Is this Jonathan Marshall” Thorburn wrote at 1am on Saturday morning.

“I have never given an interview at Sydney airport. Ever. Is that you Jonathan Marshall’’? The man who was paid by New Idea for making up a story. The same man who chased my 71 year old mum in her car. Then you stalked my terminally ill dad, sitting in a car outside his house and pulling a camera out on him at 3am when he took his dog out to go to the toilet.?”

Marshall hit back on Saturday at Thorburn claiming he had never photographed her parents or been to their home town of Mildura.

While Cook said, “I asked Cass to stop the name calling and engage in some intelligent debate, We wanted her to declare her interests. She refused. Her response was to shut down the discussion.”
