Cabramatta couple wed on Valentine’s Day with $80k KFC themed-wedding on Sydney Harbour

Dress? Check. Rings? Check. An endless supply of KFC and moist towelettes? Check. After eight years of dating, a Sydney couple take the next step in their relationship and wed – with Colonel Sanders by their side.

“Shut up and take my money”: A Cabramatta couple have tied the knot with an $80,000 KFC themed wedding.

Thanh Huyng and Brian Tran tied the knot on Valentine’s Day at Sydney’s Opera House before having a special KFC-catered picnic on Bennelong Lawn overlooking Sydney Harbour.

But the celebration – of love and potato and gravy – didn’t stop there.

The reception was held at Cabra-Vale Diggers where the couple, who met eight years ago at university, indulged with a KFC bucket-themed wedding cake, while guests donned chicken suits and were treated to personalised buckets of chicken.

And instead of tossing the bouquet, they tossed a bucket.

The two won the chance to host a KFC wedding after entering a competition with the fast food retail giant in November.

While originally it was Tran who is the ultimate KFC fan – his dream is to visit a KFC in every country around the world – it was Huyng who suggested he should propose with the onion ring and try to win.

“We were already planning our wedding and had already set the date for Valentine’s Day,” Huyng told The Daily Telegraph.

“A KFC wedding was just a dream for us, so when we saw heard about the competition we had to enter but definitely didn’t expect to win.”

When they found out they were the winner, they had two weeks before their big day.

“There was some uncertainty about how things would turn out but KFC made us feel at ease,” Tran said.

“We were worried some of our older relatives would be against the idea but the team were able to tie things in so well with our Asian traditions and catering needs. In the end, those older relatives we were worried about grabbed most of the KFC buckets to go.”

With the fast food giant now catering to weddings, Tran encourages other couples to add some wicked wings to their day.

“All our guests have told us that it was the most memorable and fun wedding they’ve ever been to,” she said.

“I never imagined I’d be having a KFC themed wedding but we wouldn’t of had it any other way.”

Fellow fast food retailer McDonald’s launched wedding catering internationally last year, with many suggesting it will make its way to Australia.
