Despite local uproar and pushes to have the show cancelled, controversial reality show Byron Baes is finally being released.
In what is possibly one of the worst kept secrets in the genre, the cast has been officially unveiled ahead of the series launch next month.
Shot in northern NSW last year, locals pushed hard to boycott the show fearing it would perpetuate stereotypes and attract the “wrong crowd” to the tourist hot spot.
In true Byron form, a ‘paddle protest’ was held while an online petition lobbied businesses to boycott the production.
Some of the more familiar faces in the cast include Elias Chigros, of Love Island fame, and former Bachelorette star Nathan Favro.
“Entrepreneurs, influencers, musicians, designers and artists flock to the Australian beach town of Byron Bay,” the show synopsis reads. “It’s a creative hot spot, full of promise — and so much drama. They come for the dreamy beaches, the beautiful sunsets and the high-impact connections, but it can be brutal — and the gossip can be fierce — if you’re from out of town and trying to break into this close-knit community of locals. This docusoap follows a tight circle of friends as they navigate life, love and career.”
