British singer Maisie Peters has vowed to carry on an Aussie drinking tradition long after she leaves the country.

Supporting Ed Sheeran on his tour Down Under, Peters did her first ‘shoey’ of beer out of a black boot at Sydney’s Metro Theatre on Tuesday night.

“The shoey was good, honestly everyone was so gassed about it, I think I will do them everywhere I go and make them a permanent part of the show,” Peters told The Daily Telegraph.

“It was a shoe I have been wearing actually for many months, it is good to be one with your own shoes.”

Fans were delighted as Peters chugged the beer from her boot, just as they were as superstar Harry Styles did a shoey at his recent Perth show.

Straight into it.

It is something many a visiting muso has taken on while touring Australia with the likes of Post Malone, Kasey Musgraves and Machine Gun Kelly all famously doing shoey’s while here.

Peters, 22, is signed to Sheeran’s label, Gingerbread Man and in June is set to release her sophomore album, The Good Witch.

The Metro Theatre gig was one of several sideshows she’s doing while supporting Sheeran on his +–=÷x Tour stadium tour.

“Ed is amazing,” she said. “He is super generous and super kind and everything you’d hope he would be. I like to think that I am really grateful for the opportunities given but then it is up to me what I make of them. I am really just trying to do as much as I can possibly do to make sure I can come back again.”

At 154cm tall, or 5’1, Peters provided an interesting description when asked to detail her aesthetic as an artist.

“I am a singer/songwriter, I am British, short and blonde,” she said.

“I am sort of mean, bitter and twisted and biting and friendly and into cats and partial to a chocolate fountain.”

Mean?

“My mother calls me ‘spikey’ but only if you cross me. I am only five foot one, you’ve got to use other powers.”
