Wearing bright colours is a powerful mood booster particularly after months of harsh lockdowns, according to fashion experts.

With summer fast approaching, lighter hues have been popular on runways across major Fashion Week events this year.

Psychologist Sabina Read said colour directly impacted self-esteem.

“Colour is a powerful mood booster. Bright and bold colours suggest to us and others that we have a ‘pep in our step’ and can reveal a degree of playfulness and confidence,” Ms Read said.

“Fun accessories let others know we don’t take ourselves too seriously and a well put-together outfit says we are ready to engage in the world again.

“Bright colours are also a great conversation starter, and after talking about Covid for 18 months, who isn’t looking for some new and interesting topics to kickstart engaging dialogue.”

Stylist Stuart Walford — who recently worked at Melbourne Fashion Week where bright colours were on-trend — said bold fashion made a statement.

Model Maddison Bijelic said she was excited to be able to dress up again. “I am obsessed with the beautiful green colour of this dress and the multiple layers of tulle certainly bring the drama.”
