Famous publican Arthur Laundy is keeping his new venue in the family.
After undergoing a host of refurbishments. The Laundy Hotel Group’s Strathfield pub, Crossways Hotel, is launching a new casual eatery named after Laundy’s late mother.
Bonnie was the nickname of Laundy’s mother Veronica, and so Bonnie’s is a tribute to her and also Italian family feasts.
The 90-year-old pub has been in the immense Laundy stable (which includes venues like Watson’s Bay Boutique Hotel and Woolly Bay Hotel) since 2016.
Laundy, who has created the largest privately-owned pub group in Australia, himself lived on the same street as the pub for four decades, and before they purchased it, it was their local.
“I’m so proud of what mother and father did. They built their first hotel in 1964. I’ve worked hard over 60 years but they worked harder. In rugby league terms they are on the inside and they’ve thrown me the ball on the wing and I’ve scored,” said Laundy.
“I’m proud I could name this restaurant after my mother.”
Last year, The Crossways Hotel underwent refurbishments, which are inspired by the 70s sports lounges or the past.
Laundy said he has fond memories of the Italian restaurants that used to surround the hotel, which is why they made the decision for Bonnie’s to be Italian.
Created by Group Executive Chef, Jamie Gannon and Group Head Chef, Tanoy Biswas, the food is focused on fuss free dining and includes lightly fried Bolognese arancini with house napolitana sauce, veal and chicken meatballs in a rich tomato sauce; Milanese-style crumbed pork schnitzel; and an eggplant lasagne with layers of roasted eggplant and salted ricotta.
Bonnie’s will offer a range of classic combos from $30 – like chicken schnitzel or crumbed pork with your choice of pasta.
Bonnie’s comes after the family unveiled their $14m renovation of Woolly Bay Hotel in 2022, with a restaurant Arturo’s, named after Laundy’s father, Arthur Snr.
Laundy himself still does a road trip every weekend and visits it’s pubs across the city.
