IT was back to black for the British Academy Film Awards in London yesterday.
Following suit from the Golden Globes last month, the film industry donned black to show support for the MeToo and Time’sUp campaigns.
The traditional arrival of the stars got off to a rocky start when female protesters from a group called Sisters Uncut stormed the red carpet and laid down with linked arms.
The stunt was designed to draw attention to British PM Theresa May’s domestic violence policies, which they say are a “dangerous distraction” that will leave survivors “locked up in prison, locked out of refuges, and locked in to violent relationships”.
The awards were hosted by two-time BAFTA winner Joanna Lumley who is best known for her role as Patsy Stone in Absolutely Fabulous.
Margot Robbie was nominated for the Best Actress for her role in I, Tonya but lost out to Frances McDormand for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
While the Aussie was not a winner inside, she was at the top of the best-dressed list alongside Jennifer Lawrence, Angelina Jolie and Natalie Dormer.
