MATTHEW “Matty J” Johnson’s sister made a bombshell entrance into The Bachelor mansion last week but it’s not the first time she has been in the limelight.
Kate, also known as Katie Johnson, used to date cricket star Andrew Symonds and their on-again off-again romance was played out in the headlines after the pair finally called it quits in 2009.
The former WAG, who is now married and expecting her second baby, attended many high-profile sporting events with Symonds including the 2008 Allan Border Medal awards night.
She has also rubbed shoulders with other sports stars’ partners and is rumoured to have had a close relationship with Shane Watson’s wife Lee Furlong.
Things turned sour for the couple after Symonds opened up in 2009 about struggling to find quality time for Kate.
“It’s not like we’ve got all day to sit at home and try and work out a way to fix things or make things better,” Symonds told News Corp at the time.
“You’re always on the go, you’re always moving, you’re not at home to have that personal contact to try and iron the kinks out.
“I suppose your mind becomes laden down with all sorts of things you don’t need to be thinking about when you’re playing. So it’s got to have an effect on you. It’s how you sort of block it away and try and deal with it when you’ve finished your day or before you start your day.”
Symonds and his partner Laura welcomed their first baby Chloe Symonds in 2012. It was the same year he announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, in an attempt to concentrate on family.
