THE Bachelorette Sophie Monk has opened up in her most candid interview yet, detailing how she was “insecure” and had to bring her “egotistical” self back down to earth.
The 37-year-old beauty sat down exclusively with Confidential’s Jonathon “JMo” Moran, who featured on last night’s reality TV episode.
During a quick break from filming, Monk revealed she “missed out” on a pivotal part of her life.
“I started working when I was a teenager, and I really missed out in my 20s. I didn’t drink, I didn’t got to bars, I didn’t go to nightclubs. I couldn’t really because there was a lot of hype around Bardot and the attention — I didn’t like it,” she told JMo on set of Channel 10.
“I worked solidly. I never got to meet people in different worlds or industries. I only lived and breathed my industry and I kind of got tired of bumping into egotistical people to be honest — like me.
“I like to think I pulled myself down to earth now — I think I was insecure. A lot of people in our industry are insecure aren’t they?”
Monk said all she wanted was a “husband, children and just a family” when she decided to sign up for the show.
“It’s the cocky ones that have got all the confidence that go for all the girls. Players, really,” she said.
“It almost doesn’t make sense to do a reality show and I want someone that’s not famous. But I can’t go on the social media apps — on Tinder and those things — it’ll be printed everywhere. So yeah, this was my option.
“Also at least if I do date someone, I don’t have that anxiety. It’s all out in the open, which is nice because a lot of the problem is that you’re hiding and when do you come out?
“It makes complete sense to me. Other people might not understand but it makes sense.”
The Bachelorette airs on Wednesdays and Thursdays on Channel 10 at 7.30pm.
