THE Daily Mail Australia journalist who labelled Bachelor In Paradise star Florence Alexandra a “vapid c**t” in an online article has been sacked.
Trainee writer April Glover had her contract terminated yesterday following an internal probe into how she published the c-word in the last paragraph of the article about the star’s media promotion of a cosmetic procedure she’d had.
The website drew gasps and complaints on Sunday for the two hours that the article was live with the offending paragraph reading: “Most people educated at high school level know these vapid c**ts only go on the shows to find mediocre Instagram fame …”
The article prompted Ms Alexander, 28, to lodge a complaint and demand a personal apology from the website.
“I’ve thought about legal action but upon reflection I don’t want to waste my time on negative energy,” she told the Daily Telegraph.
“I am, however, waiting for an apology from the Daily Mail for what I consider to be a very rude and upsetting article.”
Ms Glover, a trainee at the website of 18 months, included the comment in an article about so called tear trough treatment to remove undereye bags.
Sources say the reporter was musing with her co-workers writing in a word document and forgot to delete the offending paragraph before publishing the story.
Channel Ten backed Ms Alexander, describing the story as “appalling and disgusting”.
Last night Daily Mail Australia issued a statement reading: “After an internal investigation, Daily Mail Australia has now terminated the employment of the journalist responsible for the offending words.”
Earlier, a spokesman apologised for the offensive wording, saying: “Daily Mail Australia apologises to anyone offended by the language, particularly Ms Alexandra.”
