Baby news: Tom Burgess and Tahlia Giumelli welcome daughter
NRL star Tom Burgess and his model partner of three years Tahlia Giumelli welcomed their first baby, Sophie Heather, to the growing Burgess family, which now consists of seven children among the footballer siblings.
The weekly Burgess bolognese dinner just got a bit more crowded with the arrival of the seventh grandchild for the footy family matriarch Julie Burgess.
NRL player Tom Burgess and his model partner of three years Tahlia Giumelli welcomed their first baby, Sophie Heather Burgess, at 2.09am on Saturday.
“She has my lips and dad’s chubby cheeks,” an exhausted Ms Giumelli said.
“She has brown hair, I think she will have blue eyes and she has lots of fat rolls after weighing in at 4.03 kilos.
“She wasn’t even full-term. These Burgess babies aren’t small.”
Tom, 27, added: “She has lovely lips and a nice little chin. This just doesn’t feel real yet to be honest.”

With Sophie’s arrival, Ms Giumelli said Julie Burgess has “gone from having one grandchild to seven in two and a half years”.
“There are five girls and two boys and I think it will be so nice they are so close in age growing up,” she said.
“They are going to be such good friends. Little troublemakers.”
The new mum said “Julie B” might now need to upgrade her dining table to make room for the new arrival, with George Burgess and his wife Joanna having also welcomed baby girl Blainey Ann just last week.
“There is no table big enough for us all now,” Ms Giumelli said.
“The bolognese nights are busy now. They used to be so calm and quiet and now it’s manic.”
The model mum said the Burgess clan was expected to descend on Sydney’s Royal Hospital for Women this weekend to meet Sophie.
“The Burgess’s are slowly trickling in,” she said.
“Obviously there’s a lot of them.
“Mum and Julie came pretty much an hour after I gave birth and George, Sam, Jo, Phoebe and Luke will just come in over the weekend.”
And despite being used to a glamorous life after being discovered in the 2011 Girlfriend Model Search and having worked for Wonderbra, General Pants, Bras N Things and Forever New, the Chic Management model said after a complicated 15-hour birth due to Sophie’s shoulders getting stuck, she doesn’t envisage getting out of her pyjamas anytime soon.
“I am still in my pyjamas,” she said.
“I’m keeping it real. I thought, no one could possibly want to put effort into getting ready after giving birth.
“That first shower was the most beautiful thing ever.”
As to their plans when raising their firstborn child, the sweet couple are keeping it simple.
“We just want to raise a good, healthy and happy child,” Giumelli said.
“And take lots of trips to Disneyland.”
