CHARLOTTE Caslick hopes to be the sporting role model that she never had.
The Olympic champion rugby player is nominated for sports personality of the year at tonight’s Australian Institute of Sports Awards.
The Australian Women’s Rugby Sevens player said she was proud of her team’s achievements in 2017.
“It has been an amazing year, we have done everything that we set out to achieve,” Caslick said.
“Now we have to keep building on what we have done.”
For many young girls, athletes such as Caslick are an inspiration, something that the footballer said she wished was around in her youth.
“When we were going up, we didn’t have a lot of strong females in the sport to look up to,” she said.
“It is a privilege to be a role model to young girls, to show them what you can do.”
“When we first started playing we wanted to challenge the stereotypes, and I think we have done a great job of that this year.”
Caslick is against race car driver Daniel Ricciardo, rower Kim Brennan and pentathlete Chloe Esposito for the night’s top award.
