Aussie supermodel Nyadak ‘Duckie’ Thot is stepping up to the Sports Illustrated plate.
The Daily Telegraph can reveal that the 27-year-old will soon be leaving our shores to work for the illustrious magazine’s coveted swimsuit issue.
The Melbourne-born beauty made her debut as a Sports Illustrated swimsuit rookie in January, and has already received a callback as a main player.
She was photographed in Macari in Montenegro, and grabbed the chance to position herself as a vocal advocate for representation in fashion.
“It’s going to be cool to be put on this platform,” she said. “You’re going to get not so much Duckie the model but Duckie the person.”
Few Australians have featured in Sports Illustrated’s annual swim issue, which has a global readership of around 18 million.
Among them are Elle Macpherson, Jessica Gomes and Robyn Lawley.
Thot was launched onto the global fashion stage in 2017, when she was selected to walk in a Yeezy Spring/Summer show, and it wasn’t long before Rihanna came knocking.
The 27-year-old, who is of South Sudanese descent, became the face of the pop icon’s cult Fenty range.
Rapper Nicky Minaj questioned whether Thot was “even real”, such are her exquisite doll-like looks.
Based in New York, Thot returned home to Australia this week and last night headlined The Iconic’s sixth annual ‘X’ runway show at The Venue in Alexandria.
“It’s great to be home, working with familiar faces, Aussies, and familiar brands,” she said. “My career started here. It’ll also be great to get some downtime over the next few weeks.”
The Iconic’s runway shows are renowned not only for turning looks but also for celebrating diversity — an issue close to Thot’s heart.
She stunned on the runway alongside Olympic medallist Harry Garside, Heartbreak High star James Majoos, Māori actor and star from The Wilds Erana James, and iconic First Nations Australian model, Elaine George.
