Australian Fashion Week looks to lure Bella Hadid to be star of the show

SHE’S one of the hottest models in the world and Bella Hadid is set to be the star of Australian Fashion Week’s first Resort Collections event.

Hadid, the younger sister of Victoria’s Secret model Gigi Hadid, is understood to be in negotiations with event organiser IMG and Australian fashion brand Misha Collection to be a special guest at next month’s event.

The model is said to be seeking a substantial sum to represent the brand in question. It is not known whether she will take part in the catwalk parade or simply be seated in the front row. “IMG will not provide any comment regarding this,” a spokeswoman for IMG Australia said yesterday when contacted. A Misha Collection PR representative did not return calls.

The 19-year-old is quickly becoming a powerhouse in the international modelling scene, having modelled in campaigns for the prestigious Paris fashion house Balmain and Marc Jacobs. She has also appeared on the runway for Chanel, Tom Ford and Moschino.

If signed to appear at the new Resort Collections event, Hadid will join a distinguished list of former special guests who have included Brazilian model Alessandra Ambrosio and British modelling legends Jerry Hall and Yasmin Le Bon.

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia has moved from April to May this year and will now focus on resort collections after pressure from the industry to move the date to a more convenient time for international buyers.

Previously MBFWA was held at the end of the international buying season, making it difficult for designers to sell their collections abroad.

Rebecca Vallance, Bec & Bridge, Bianca Spender, By Johnny, Ginger & Smart and Camilla are among the designers confirmed to show throughout the six-day event.
