Australian model and actor Ellie Gonsalves has revealed she received several invitations to meet Jared Leto, following contested allegations from nine women accusing the Hollywood star of sexually inappropriate behaviour.

Nine women have accused the 53-year-old of engaging in inappropriate behaviour and flirting with underage women.

Leto has denied the allegations and has not been charged with any wrongdoing.

One woman, DJ Allie Teilz, alleged she was traumatised by Leto at 17, saying his behaviour was “predatory, terrifying and unacceptable.”

“He knew my age and didn’t care,” she said.

Leto’s spokesman told AirMail, “Their communications contain nothing sexual or inappropriate.” He added that one accuser later applied to work for him — a claim she denies.

In an Instagram post, Gonsalves, 34, shared that over the years she received multiple

invitations to meet Leto at his home and backstage at his shows but declined.

“With everything surfacing around Jared Leto … I wanted to share my opinion,” she wrote. “I don’t know this man personally or had any interaction with him as I have declined all previous invitations.”

Speaking generally about the issue, Gonsalves, who has 1.1 million Instagram followers, also called out the role others in the industry can play in facilitating celebrity meetings.

“Celebrities can often use [others] … to interact with women on their behalf for a reason: it creates a buffer between them and accountability,” she said.

“It makes the approach feel more legitimate, less threatening, and gives them plausible deniability if anything goes wrong.”

The model warned followers not to assume an approach is safe just because it comes through official channels.

“No matter how safe a situation seems because someone reaches out … always be wary. There’s a reason Hollywood is nicknamed Hollyweird.”

She said her post wasn’t aimed at the claims surrounding Leto but at an industry-wide problem.

“Silence, complicity, and ‘just doing my job’ aren’t excuses when people get hurt … I’m also saying this in general – not targeted towards just one person.”
