RISING Aussie star Alex Russell is the latest actor to be added to the cast of Angelina Jolie's Unbroken.

RISING Aussie star Alex Russell is the latest actor to be added to the cast of Angelina Jolie's Unbroken.

The 25-year old is reportedly set to play the main character Louis Zamperini's older brother Pete, a member of the US athletics team at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.

UK actor Jack O'Connell is in the lead, with Tron: Legacy star Garrett Hedlund and Harry

Potter's Domnhall Gleeson also cast in supporting roles.

Russell has long been touted as 'one to watch' in Hollywood after starts in local productions Wasted On The Young and Bait.

He had his breakout in superhero flick Chronicle, before landing parts in Twilight author Stephenie Meyer's The Host and the remake of horror classic Carrie.

Unbroken tells the story of former Olympian and WWII bombardier Zamperini whose plane crashed at sea in 1943.

MEET ANGELINA'S STUNT DOUBLE

Zamperini and two crewmates floated adrift for 47 days and 2000 miles, eventually finding themselves caught by the Japanese Navy and sent to a POW camp where he was targeted by a sadistic overseer.

Her second film serving as a director, Jolie has been in Sydney for the past month scouting film locations everywhere from Tamworth to the Gold Coast.

Unbroken has been slated with a Christmas 2014 release, setting it up in prime Oscar season and against some of the year's biggest blockbusters including the final Hobbit film.
