Sydney shock jock Alan Jones has revealed a “flu dog” kept him off air this week and forced him into hospital with Steve Price called in to keep his seat warm.
The 2GB Radio host updated listeners about his condition on social media this morning, posting a photo of himself sitting on hospital bed next to a packed suitcase ready to head home.
“I have to smile because I’m checking out of hospital after a week from hell,” he said.
“The flu dog bit me savagely. I haven’t put him down yet but I hope to.”
Jones also said he expected to be back behind the microphone on his number one rating breakfast show next week.
Price has been filling in on the 5:30-9am timeslot since Monday while several guests including Karl Stefanovic hosted his own afternoons show.
Price read a message from Jones to 2GB listeners this morning and said it had been a “rough week” after the infections spread to his eyes.
“I’ve had no voice, awful coughing bouts and a fever,” he said.
“The doctors have been working on different medications. This flu certainly has a bite to it”.
Jones also revealed that he received a “heavy dose” of cortisone to reduce inflammation that was affecting his vocal chords.
“Thankfully that has worked and I’ve since been able to sleep.”
Jones’s health battles have forced him off-air for weeks on end in the past two years. In November 2016, he underwent initial surgery on his back before going under the knife again in early 2017. Months later he was forced to take several days off after developing multiple blood clots.
