The rain pelted down on the celebrity minders at yesterday’s AACTA Awards red carpet parade, but it didn’t stop the stars shining in the style stakes.

The heavens let loose at exactly the moment the event was due to start at The Star’s Event Centre, meaning many stars delayed their red carpet walk to save getting their hair wet.

But when they did, red was the clear colour trend with Edwina Bartholemew and a Ginger and Smart-wearing Danielle Cormack among those donning the hue.

Keeping it in the family, Jess McNamee returned home to be there with her sister, Home and Away star Penny McNamee.

Rising stars in Hollywood Angourie Rice and Nicholas Hamilton
also made their AACTA debuts.

Noticeably absent from the event was Sophie Monk’s beau Stu Laundy, who was at home sick. “I told him now people are going to think we’ve broken up,” Monk said.

Russell Crowe, Paul Hogan and Sam Neill also avoided the press.

After beginning the year with six Oscar and four Golden Globe nominations and two BAFTA wins, homegrown movie hit Lion swept the awards again, winning 12 awards, including Best Film, Best Lead actor to young Sunny Pawar and Best Supporting to Nicole Kidman.

Pawar, who wasn’t at the event, now becomes the youngest winner in the category, outdoing Simon Burke who was 15 when he won the AFI in 1976 for The Devil’s Playground.

Kidman also picked up a Best Supporting AACTA in the TV Drama category for her near-unrecognisable turn in Foxtel miniseries Top Of The Lake: China Girl.
