Sports presenter Erin Molan has been announced in a new role starting January which will see her leave Nine radio in a major shake-up.

What Kyle and Jackie O hate about each other

Here we go again. Another year, another 2Day FM breakfast team.

Broadcaster SCA has announced yet another major shake-up of its breakfast team in Sydney with comedians Dave Hughes and Ed Kavalee joining sports presenter Erin Molan as the Hughesy, Ed and Erin show from January.

The trio replaces Jamie Angel, who stepped into the shift in August last year.

It is the eighth breakfast show incarnation since Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O Henderson defected to rival KIIS 106.5, with some labelling the shift a poison chalice.

“In bringing back a headline breakfast show again to 2Day, it was critical for us to deliver the combination of established chemistry, familiarity, existing high passion for our talent, deep breakfast radio experience and, most importantly, a show focused completely on Sydney every morning,” SCA chief content officer Dave Cameron said.

“The 2DayFM Morning Crew with Hughesy, Ed and Erin will bring a clever wit with a show that’s already at the top of its game. We can’t wait to make strong inroads and get 2Day pumping again.”

Hughesy and Ed come from the drive shift while Molan previously broadcast for 2GB.

“To be trusted with this role is a huge honour and I can’t wait to embark on this new adventure with two of Australia’s comedy greats,” Molan said.

“Anyone who has listened to me on radio or watched me on TV over the past few years would be surprised that I’ve been brought into the fold as the ‘sensible one’. I was equally as amused and made sure to sign very quickly before anyone discovers I’m anything but.”

Of the announcement, Hughes said he was looking forward to setting up home in Sydney after years living in Melbourne.

His former radio partner Kate Langbroek has also just been announced as a new co-host of KIIS FM’s 3PM Pick Up.

“My inbox is already full of DM’s from Sydney real estate agents. Look, I can’t buy all of them but I’ll have a crack. Until then I will be staying in Kyle Sandilands’ pool house. In all seriousness, I have a ball working with Ed and I’m super pumped to be working with Erin. This is going to be a blast. From 10am every day you will find me at the Bondi outdoor gym busting shirtless workouts until my manboobs get rock hard.”

Hughes said he and the team were committed to bedding down the show and establishing and growing their audience.

“We have long term contracts and a commitment from the powers that be that they are going to give us time to build,” he said. “I wouldn’t have done it otherwise. We are here for the long term.”

Before Angel, Grant Denyer, Kavalee and Ash London helmed breakfast.

It has been a revolving door of talent with others moved on from 2Day breakfast over recent years including Sophie Monk, Merrick Watts, Rove McManus, Sam Frost and Em Rusciano.

For the last radio ratings survey, Angel’s breakfast shift at 2Day registered a 3.5 per cent share of the Sydney market, well below major competitors at rival networks with Kyle and Jackie O on 10.7 per cent by comparison.
