Roxy Jacenko throws son Hunter a $50k Hawaiian-themed 9th birthday party

Sister Pixie famously spent $40,000 on her 11th birthday party last year, so Roxy Jacenko’s son Hunter Curtis decided to go bigger, brighter and more tropical for his 9th.

It was the birthday luau of dreams — a Hawaiian-themed, three-hour cruise on Sydney Harbour on 122ft superyacht Ghost II. Welcome to the ninth birthday of Hunter, Roxy Jacenko and Oliver Curtis’s heir.

Rumoured to have cost in the vicinity of $50,000, the party for 40 was held on Saturday afternoon and comes after the PR guru splashed out a reported $40,000 on entrepreneurial daughter Pixie’s neon disco-themed 11th birthday party last year.

But this year’s “aloha” theme was all Hunter.

“Hunter was looking through old photos from when he was little and came across some images of a trip we went on to Hawaii — it was then he decided he wanted a Hawaiian-themed ninth birthday as he has missed out on celebrating with his friends due to Covid for the past three birthdays,” Jacenko told Sunday Confidential.

“He had my mum Doreen buy him a traditional Hawaiian shirt on her recent vacation just like the one he wore when he was in Hawaii as part of his look for the day with friends.”

She said the party, planned and styled by Diane Khoury Events, even included a jacuzzi filled for the boys to enjoy.

They had custom slippers made, a DJ spinning tunes, tiki bar for the adults, and a 13m double-layered balloon garland hanging off the back of the famed vessel, which is rented out at $2800 per hour.

Assistant planner and stylist Katarina Yelavich said Hunter initially provided them with an “amazing inspo document” that gave them great insight into what he was after.

“It has been just over a month in the planning and styling process … there has been nothing more rewarding than seeing Hunter’s ideas come to life,” she said.

She said one of the greatest features was the custom two-tier cake — it had a handmade Hunter on top holding a surfboard and wearing Hawaiian shorts — as well as the “epic” lolly buffet station.

“It’s every kid’s dream,” she said.

“As guests arrived on board the yacht, they were greeted with hula girl dancers and a poi-ball dancer and handed leis — we wanted to ensure the guests were transported to Hawaii.”
