Robbie Williams has taken a cheeky swipe at an Aussie radio producer after being grilled on his sex life during a press conference ahead of his tour Down Under.

The British pop star addressed a crowd of media at a Sydney hotel on Tuesday, where he was asked a range of questions, including many about his newly-released Netflix docu-series, Robbie Williams.

During his recent press rounds, Williams, 49, had candidly revealed that his libido had declined significantly due to medication he was on for depression – but when the topic was raised on Tuesday, he appeared very unimpressed.

A producer for 2DayFM’s Hughesy, Ed & Erin show, Nick, had asked Williams whether or not he and wife Ayda Field had had sex this year, prompting him to fire back with some deeply personal questions of his own.

“How many people have you had sex with? … Do you cheat?” he asked the radio producer.

“How’s your c**k? I’m asking honestly, how big is your c**k? Hey listen, one probing question deserves a follow-up.”

The breakfast radio team played audio of the excruciatingly awkward encounter during their show on Wednesday, with hosts Erin Molan and David “Hughesy” Hughes in fits of giggles.

“So, the mic was snatched from you, Nick? And at that point the laughs had stopped in the room, and you could cut the air with a knife...” Hughesy prompted his producer during the segment.

“The management who snatched the microphone away says, ‘Alright, no more questions, certainly no more questions’ - and there was a murmur around the room of agreement, like, ‘Yeah good idea, good thinking’,” Nick explained.

To make matters worse, he then revealed that the press pack had then been forced to wait in the room for another half hour - and that “no-one” would talk to him.

It comes as Williams prepares to kick off his nine-show Australian tour at Sydney’s AAMI stadium on Thursday night.

It comes just over a week after the release of his emotional four-part docu-series, in which one particularly harrowing scene shows him suffering a major panic attack backstage during his massive 2006 Close Encounters tour in Leeds.

In the footage, Williams’ state of distress does not subside during the entire two-hour performance, where he appears panicked on stage.

The following day, the singer matter-of-factly explains on camera that it had been a “disaster”.

“I developed a panic attack before I went on that didn’t finish all the way through the performance,” he says to producers.

“I could swear that people could read my mind – and you know, there’s 90,000 people there. I don’t know if you’ve ever had one of those dreams where you’re on stage and you don’t know the script or what you’re doing, and how real and how terrifying that is … well, it came true for me on stage in Leeds.”

“I came off for the encore, and I never wanted to go back on stage ever again. I couldn’t speak and I kept shaking … I was going through trauma.”

Williams continued with the tour after being convinced not to quit by his manager, and later publicly revealed he was battling “stage fright”.

It would be seven years before he went on tour again, but as the Netflix series shows, these days, the star has largely conquered his demons.

Williams has been married to Field for 13 years and the couple share four children.
