Robbie Williams dumped Geri Halliwell after being told she was tipping off the tabloids about their relationship.

The star, 49, says he was told by a paparazzo – incorrectly – that she was the reason the pair were being trailed by photographers, reports The Sun.

It came after video footage of their 2000 holiday in the South of France emerged showing the happy pair on a yacht, wrestling and doing silly voices together.

Robbie, in his new four-part Netflix documentary, reveals he loved his time with the Spice Girl.

And on Sunday, he told The Sun: “Geri kindly gave me permission to use (the footage).

“That was a very important holiday for me because I was happy; because I wasn’t before and I wasn’t really for a long time after.

“I have only amazing things to say about her now.

“I never accused her (of going to paps) at the time and obviously I know now she wasn’t.”

The film shows them on a summer break with his writing partner Guy Chambers and his wife, Emma.

On camera, former Take That star Robbie admits he was the happiest he had been in a decade.

Only his paranoia and trust issues stopped their relationship from developing, he suggests.

He says: “It was a very confusing relationship, because she’s a girl and I’m a boy, we are very good friends trying to sort out the wreckage of the past.

“I just found her company very, very easy.

“There is a silliness.

“We really got on really well. It was fun.

“We were a little gang that were sharing a very magical moment, in a magical place.”

The couple were first linked shortly before the trip after she was seen leaving his home at 1am.

They were said to have shared a “deep connection” over their experiences of leaving their globally successful pop bands.

Robbie Williams begins streaming on Netflix on Wednesday.
